M.Tech Admission Experience

(AIR 422 GATE 2019 CSE) I appeared for M.Tech (by research) admission interview at IISc Bangalore on 24th May 2019.  There were 10 slots for the exam, a morning session and an afternoon session, everyday, from 20th May 2019 to 24th May 2019.  There were three streams to choose from, for the written test and the interview, namely, Theory, Systems and Intelligent Systems.  I find Intelligent systems interesting, so I chose that. It would mainly require the knowledge of linear algebra and probability. First we had to clear a 30 minutes written test, consisting of 10 questions. It was very very simple, and here I am adding the questions which I can remember: - X1 to Xn are Bernoulli random variables, Y is a variable = summation(Xi), what is the expected value of Y. Finding the characteristic equation of a given matrix. Finding the output of a given C program. Ordering given algorithms in ascending order of time complexities. (AIR 422 GATE 2019 CSE) I had appeared for IIT Delhi M.Tech in Computer Technology admission interview on 15.05.2019. Computer Technology is a course offered by the Electrical Engineering Department for students from EE/ECE/IT/CSE/IN backgrounds. Students are initially shortlisted for an interview based on GATE score. Then the selection of the student depends on the interview performance. I was asked questions from CSE since that is my background. I wish to share my M.Tech. admission experiences. Reading my seniors' interview experiences were very beneficial for me during my interviews. Hence I wish to document parts of my ventures too! I initially thought about taking the GATE examination when I was pursuing my B.Tech. I always wanted to be a part of some prestigious institute, as they open up so many opportunities (research, industry experience, new technologies, beautiful projects....you name it!). In GATE examination I managed to secure an AIR of 422 (GATE 2019, Computer Science and Information Technology). It is around 99.5 percentile, which is not that bad! Like many others I wished to complete my master's degree from some old IIT or IISc. Now even this rank wasn't enough to get direct admission into those institutes.
